Blessed Are the Risk-Takers?

Have you ever tried a new venture or gone out of your comfort zone? I think we all have at some point in our lives. I am going to try to do the same more often in my faith life. I think Jesus would appreciate it, He seems to like risk-takers.

Just think about how Jesus called Peter out of the boat to walk on the water towards Him. That was a big risk he was asking Peter to take, and Peter did alright until he thought too much about it and began to sink. I think that throughout our lives, Jesus asks us to come out of our “boats of comfort” and venture into what may seem like a storm to us as well.

For example, perhaps you haven’t been to Mass in a while; I believe Jesus would ask us to leave our comfortable, tried and true excuses behind to go to Mass on Sunday. Or perhaps you never say the Rosary or read religious books; Jesus would ask us to try new things even if at first they are out of what we ordinarily do.

In the Bible, Jesus is always telling us to trust him. Imagine you are a child again, first learning to swim with one of your parents—you’d have to trust your parents to let go of the sides to swim out. Likewise, we have to trust in God to let go of what we know and reach out for the new.

Have you tried something new that you didn’t think you could do, but found out that you actually could succeed at it? Please share.
