Taming Temptations

I’m pretty certain that Jesus was not imagining dieting when he taught us the words “And lead us not into temptation” in the Lord’s Prayer.  However, there are times when I am trying to stick to a healthy eating plan when I say a quick prayer with those words.

I like to think that Jesus would be proud of people who stick to plans to make their lives better – whether its through a diet, or working towards a goal, or abstaining from alcohol.  Today, as I chose to eat a lunch I had brought with me instead of opting for a fast food lunch, a I began to think of the different meanings people can apply to the word temptation.  There is, of course, temptation towards choices that are sinful, and temptations towards things that are not sinful—like having a second helping of dessert—but could potentially harm us in other ways.  Both take us away from our goals.

What I have noticed through many trials and errors is that it gets easier to stay on track, spiritually and otherwise, with each choice against temptation that we make.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  Let’s try to have some fun and remain true to our goals, and our God!
