The past few days, I’ve been feeling a bit down. The stress of life has just been getting to me. I’m sure you all know what that feels like. Last night, as I’m sitting in the living room, feeling pretty low, my husband said something so hilarious that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
He began his sentence with “I have some dollar bills…” But he didn’t end that sentence with how you may be inclined to think in today’s over-sexualized world. His whole sentence went like this: “I have some dollar bills, let’s go to St. Patrick’s and give them to St. Joseph.” (There is an offering box in front of the altar for St. Joseph that you can place donations in before you offer your prayer.) For those of you who may not know, St. Joseph is a wonderful saint to pray for when you are struggling with family and home issues. Since we are hoping to both find a house and start a family, he’s our go-to saint right now.
That is one of the wonders of the Catholic faith – we have so many saints to pray to for specific reasons. Some of the saints that regularly make it into my “prayer lineup” are St. Nicholas, the patron of children, St. Francis de Sales, the patron of writers, St. Anthony, the patron for lost things, and St. Jude, who’s there for hopeless causes.
Having friends and family around who can make you laugh even through your struggles, and knowing there are saints who you can pray to as well, is such a blessing.
Which saints are in your “prayer lineup?”
