This weekend I’m going away with my brothers. It should be a fun time. We always get along well together, even though sometimes things get a bit loud. We’ve been planning the trip for a while. When we first were looking at places, we found a place that was reasonable, but…we thought we’d hold out for a better deal.
I think you know where this story is heading. We passed on the first deal in hopes of something better, only to find ourselves having to go back to the first place – which was now charging more than before. Isn’t that always the way things work? So many times in life I feel that I should hold out for something better, failing to realize what I have, at the moment, right in front of me.
The Rolling Stones sung about this with their lyrics, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need.” And countless others have created movies, books and articles about this same idea. I think that if I could only learn this lesson and really let it saturate my soul, I’d be a happier person all around. Yes, sometimes it’s good to search for more, but in other instances, it works out better if you try to remain happy with what you have.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
