The Yankees, The White House, and Giving Back

When it comes to baseball, I’m a fan of the other New York team, the Mets. Like my oldest brother says, being a fan of the Mets shows character because it is so much easier to be a Yankees fan.  But something the Yankees are doing today before their visit with President Obama at the White House, I think, shows their character.

The Yankees will first be taking their World Series trophy to a rehabilitation house for veterans and a veterans hospital. Putting team loyalties aside, it’s always good to hear when those who have more give to those who have less or may need a morale boost. That’s the same for all people. We may not have something comparable to a World Series trophy to bring around to others, but there may be other gifts or things we can do to brighten someone’s day. In this instance, I will have to give a cheer for the Yankees.

  1. What a nice story about the big, bad Yankees making a trip to the hospital to brighten up the day of the wounded vets. I saw the pictures in the Daily News today and it was great to see the smiles on their faces. You are right, of course the everyday person cannot bring a WS trophy to others but it is sometimes the smallest gestures that mean the most.
