Saving drowning babies and rescuing people off subway tracks may not be an everyday occurrence (thankfully so), but two recent news stories reminded me that heroes are all around us.
This past weekend, a French tourist jumped into the East River after seeing a toddler fall in. With the girl’s father, he pulled her safely back up. The story was all over the local news.
In other news, participants on a young adult pilgrimage walk in Manhattan were on the subway when they heard the cries of help from a man on one of the subway platforms for the 6 train. They swiftly pulled him up. (See http://www.cny.org/archive/ld/ld5032510.htm for more on this story).
Both events highlight real heroes willing to help those in need. While these stories may not happen every day, there are probably people in your own life who are there to pull you up when you need help.
News like that is always good to hear. Today, I think I’ll say an extra prayer for the heroes in my life.
